Adult Classes & Camp; Workshops

Please call us (403-995-7706) or drop in to the store if you like to register for a class or workshop. If a class is full, we will gladly place you on the waiting list for that class. We often get cancellations. We suggest you don’t wait too long to register since classes often fill up fast.

Many of our adult workshops would be great for teens.

Full payment is required to register for a class or workshop. Registrations are taken at the store or over the phone with credit card.

Students may join at any time provided there is room.

Classes must have a minimum enrollment.

There are no classes on statutory holidays.

The drawing component includes the elements and principles of design. Students learn to become proficient at drawing and sketching using pencils, inks, charcoal, pastels both chalk and oil, and conté. The painting component is also based on the elements and principles of art and design and includes color theory.

We  provide private lessons at an hourly rate. Contact us for more information.

CLASSES


Discover the materials and techniques of each medium with guidance from your instructor. Classes are semi-structured with lots of freedom to experiment. Samples of projects or teachers’ works are displayed in store. GST and supplies are not included in fees.

Oil Paints – Please note that only odorless solvents for oils are permitted into classroom due to health regulations.

Russell Thomas

Animals on Black 9Russell Thomas is the co-owner of Birdsong Studio (74 Elma Street W) in Okotoks.  He is known for his wild colour portraits of humans and animals.  Since starting his painting journey in 2014, he has created over 1,600 paintings that can be found in homes and businesses across Canada and in locations around the world.  Russell has a passion for helping communities and charities with his art.  His recent 21 Day Painting Challenge raised enough money to fund the construction of a home for a poor family in rural Cambodia with the international charity Bracelets For Buildings.  Russell also volunteers as the Chair of the Okotoks Arts Council.

PRINTING WITH PAUL

This is an introductory workshop, intended for those with no or minimal exposure to the art of printmaking using linoleum as the matrix. This method of printmaking does not require the use of chemicals so is ideal for home-based activity. Participants will produce up to 2 different images and, depending on time, several prints of each.

COLOR, INTENSITY & TEXTURE GOLDEN MINI WORKSHOP

Artists are compelled by texture, but there are so many to choose from and a variety of techniques to use them effectively. Join GOLDEN Artist Educator Ashley Gaboury as she guides you in exploring the versatility of acrylics using Mediums, Gels and Pastes. Discover how to incorporate color and texture to create dynamic artwork. This workshop focuses on how color, intensity and texture all work together to bring balance and flow to your composition. All supplies included.

Class Policies

Full payment is required to register for a class or workshop. Cash, debit, MasterCard or Visa are acceptable. Sorry, we do not accept cheques.

If there are insufficient paid registrations and we have to cancel a class, you will be notified and you will receive a full refund.

Should there be room in a class already in progress, new students are welcome to join. Fees will be adjusted accordingly.

Fees for classes and workshops missed because of any event beyond our control (such as travel, road conditions, illness, weather or emergencies) cannot be refunded or credited to another class.

Paintworks cannot provide replacement or make-up classes for classes missed.

If a teacher is not available, a replacement teacher will be obtained or arrangements will be made for a make-up class.

Cancellations must occur at least two weeks prior to the date your class starts to receive a credit.

•If a student withdraws from a class or workshop they have one year to use the credit towards another class or workshop.

Students are responsible for supplies, surfaces and paper towels or as recommended on the supply list for the specific class registered for.

• Students are responsible for their own clean up. Please do not pour acrylic and oil paints down the sinks.

Classes will start on time.

Paintworks reserves the right to adjust the class schedule, adjust fees, cancel a class or modify a class at any time.

Paintworks, its employees, and other staff will not be held responsible for any losses, stolen property or personal injury that may occur while students are attending lessons.

Paintworks is not responsible for work left in the studio. If work remains in our studio two months after a class or workshop is completed, it will be disposed of.
